General Dentistry

General Dentistry covers the basic or more commonly known treatments such as cleans, checkups and children’s dentistry. We take special care to ensure that our patients have the best possible experience, especially those that may be a little bit nervous.

Clean and Check Up

Even with a thorough routine of brushing and flossing, tarter can and will still accumulate on the surface of teeth and may cause decay and gum disease. A professional dentist clean uses an ultrasonic device to remove this build up and polish the teeth, leaving your teeth feeling a fresh, healthy and clean.

As part of our commitment to your care and health, we offer no out of pocket costs for your general check up and cleans if you have Private Health with the appropriate Extras cover (check with your Health Fund on your level of cover and annual General Dental limits). We are also partnered with Medibank as a Preferred Provider and with HCF’s Hygiene Program to ensure you can have access to no out of pocket check up’s and cleans (also dependent on your level of cover and annual monetary limits).

We recommend our patient’s see us twice a year (every 6 months) for their routine checkup and cleans.

Children's Dentistry

One of the most common questions asked by parents, is when should they bring their child to the Samford dentist for their first check up; the short answer is “First visit by second birthday.” The idea of such early dental visits is still surprising to many new parents. However, studies have shown that children are developing cavities and incorrect oral habits at earlier ages.

To prevent early childhood cavities, parents first have to find out their child’s risk of developing cavities. We encourage an early age routine of brushing and flossing where parents are actively involved. This helps cement good Oral Hygiene Habits.

Cavities aren’t all that parents need to learn about their child’s dental health. The first dental visit lets parents discuss with us:

  • How to care for an infant’s or toddler’s mouth in regards to brushing and flossing
  • Oral habits, including finger and thumb sucking
  • Ways to prevent accidents that could damage the face and teeth
  • Teething and milestones of development
  • The link between diet and oral health.

Throughout a child’s life, it is important to ensure we are monitoring the development of their jaws and bite, along with their teeth whitening and gums. This allows us to discuss with you any additional treatments that may be necessary to allow correct function for speech and growth. We want your children to have the best dental health possible.

The oral health of your children is extremely important to us, and we truly love meeting new faces here at Dental Distinction. We do our very best to help kids have a happy and fun experience starting from their very first dental visit. We offer a selection of cartoons to watch and gifts for a job well done.
